God has blessed the church in Cusco with many baptisms during the last few months. In fact, we are in the process of counting the baptisms and preparing the people for the life of the church. In a few Sundays, we will celebrate their baptism and welcome them formally to our congregation of the church. Following our worship, we will say a few words about baptism to the congregation and then present to about 10-20 people a Bible, a picture of their baptism, and a certificate. Afterwards, we will invite all of those who have been baptized recently to join us for lunch upstairs, where we will present them with next steps in their Christianity, as well as a booklet of devotionals they can follow during their first 40 days of Christianity. We are encouraging all of them to invite their friends and family to come and participate in the worship service and the meal afterwards.

The following week, the church will offer a course after our worship entitled, How Can I Become a Member of Iglesia de Cristo? The course will have a Bible lesson about Christ and his salvation, it will have an introduction to our ministries that we offer, and it will outline the vision for Iglesia de Cristo. Our prayer is that those who have come to our worship services recently because of the medical campaign or other reasons, as well as those family and friends who attended for the first time last week, will accept our invitation to attend the course.

We have been planning these two weeks in April for a few months. There are a few principles that are guiding our plans…

First, we decided to always celebrate what God has done in his church. In the past, we have forgotten to celebrate, or we have unintentionally undervalued things that have taken place. We want to be more intentional about recognizing the great things God is doing. Psalm 145:1, 4, & 7 says…

I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever. One generation will commend your works to another; they will tell of your mighty acts. They will celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness.

Second, we want to be better at informing those who are coming into the church. It’s an interesting thought to consider that I have never visited Iglesia de Cristo. I was there for the first meeting, with about 10 others. I have forgotten about the anxiety and confusion that comes with attending for the first time. We want to help others overcome those obstacles and become a part of the family.

Third, we always want to provide next steps. To those who are new members, we present opportunities for them to grow deeper in their spiritual maturity. To those who are visiting for the first time, we give them a specific and clear invitation to come and learn more about Christ. Colossians 4:5 says…

Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.

We’re constantly making mistakes and learning new ways to teach others the Gospel. Please pray as we continue to reach new people and disciple those who are in the family.
